About Haven House

Mission, Vision and Values

History of Haven House

In the late 1980's, Frances found herself the victim of domestic violence.  Her difficult struggle to find safety and support in the community started her lifelong crusade accompanying women through the court process.  Frances' courage and tenacity helping women at a time when domestic violence was recognized by society became the start of what is now Haven House.

After 10 years of providing legal advocacy the dream for a safe house was realized.  Haven House began accepting its first over-night lodgers in 1999.  The bed capacity was listed at 18 and Haven House began taking in one or two families at a time.  With the rapid growth of Henry and surrounding counties and the demand for services growing, a transportation component and case management services was added in 2003.  Haven House rapidly outgrew its quarters and the Board of Directors began plans for a new, larger facility.

In 2007 the Henry County Commissioners adopted a plan to move Haven House to a new building with funding provided by the SPLOST III.  We hope to move to our new facility by the end of 2008.

Thankfully, today, women in need of refuge enjoy the support of the courts, community and Haven House to help them in ways Frances could not even imagine.
